I Know Too Many Josh’s
A few months ago I started talking to this guy called Josh, who went to my high school in Year 7. He told me he’d moved away, that’s why he left, and recently he’d been in a moped accident that had left him in a back brace. So I go online and he starts talking to me:
J: Hey, long time no talk Amy
A: Yeah, Hi, it’s been a while
J: How’ve you been
A: Good thanks, are you alright now
J: Yeah, but what do you mean by now
A: I meant with the back brace and that
J: I don’t have a back brace
Which I thought meant it had been taken off.
A: YAY!!
J: I’ve never had a back brace
At this point I’m just in the ‘What the fuck’ stage thinking, ‘Have I been listening to these conversations properly since we started talking months ago. Then I realise it’s a different Josh, the one who’d always been at high school with me. Ground, please swallow me up right now!!
A: Out of interest, who is this
J: Josh _______
I didn’t recognise the surname, and it definitely wasn’t someone I knew. I continued the conversation anyway, pretending I remembered who they were. I didn’t really want to ask them at risk of them getting upset that I had no idea. Plus they had added me on social networking sites previously so I assumed they knew me.
A: Sorry about that, thought you were someone else
J: That’s okay
A: Wubu2 anyway
J: Nm u
A: Just college reli
J: Oh, unlucky for some, when do you finish??
A: Nxt yr
J: Is this Amy ____
Another name I didn’t recognise. Major fail.
A: No, I think we both have the wrong people
J: Me 2 GTG
A: Bye

Oh that is always awkward. At least you figured it out. I’ve heard of stories where the two people assume it is the other person and talk for months or years without realizing. Now that’s crazy!
Oh man, how awkward! I’ve done that before though, especially on MSN when everyone kept changing their screen name to obscure quotes and lyrics and I could never remember who was what. *rolls eyes* At least you realized the mistake fairly quickly though…it probably could have been a lot worse!
Haha, I noticed you didn’t have pictures of yourself on your site so it sort of made me smile that you put a picture of yourself with the funny fringe.
Ugh, not everyone is good at PE. I was pretty terrible and my teacher in high school always accused me of not trying. I’m scared of catching balls… I just can’t do it. D:
Haha well there aren’t many celebrities I like that much to copy their hairstyle, but sometimes I might randomly come across a photo in a magazine and like the cut.

We had a few Anthonys and Jamies in high school though… hahaha! We just called them by their last name.

I share your angst, I know seven Kyle’s, four Chris’; all of whom I am vair close too so it’s awkwards and tend to call them by their last name. My best-mate Chris I just call him “Chris” but everyone else calls him Motty. It saves a lotta confusion.

Oh wow, that must’ve been freaky. I’ve done it before friending another and thinking “Who the heck is this?” and than finally a year later it dawns on me it’s the guy who tried to get me to go out with him in highschool after his girlfriend broke up with him. I turned him down because I didn’t want to be the rebound person. He’s married now and is/was trying to get me to be his gf and I flat out called him every name in the book and told me to quit harassing me. lol he finally did.
